The Big Event is the University of Oklahoma's official day of community service. We had the honor to hold our first Big Event two years ago in Houston where we had close to 20 alumni and friends volunteer together. This year, we are excited to get together with fellow OU alumni and friends to volunteer with the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) at their Energy for Life Walk & 5K Run! The UMDF is a small organization trying to do BIG things - to cure an incurable disease. It is a disease that has been linked to Parkinson's, ALS, Autism, diabetes, Alzheimer's, some cancers. The hope is that their work will impact not only the families we are supporting in Houston at the event on the 13th, but with all of the research it could impact the lives of millions!

VOLUNTEER
Whether you are an OU alumni, family member, or friend - we would love to have you join our team! By joining our team, there are different ways you can volunteer on the day of the event:

Assisting with set-up and tear down tasks on the day of the event such as: set up pop-up tents, tables, unloading boxes, carrying supplies stored in plastic storage bins (this can include lifting boxes and walking a bit of distance).

Help at a station (registration, merchandise, food/refreshment, kids activities, banking).

Run route volunteer, water stop volunteer.

If you have any physical limitations, please just let us know. There is plenty to do and we can find a job for you!

If you prefer, you can also spend your day by participating as a 5k runner or walker! (If you register as a runner before March 22, you will also receive a t-shirt! There is a fee for running registration.)
If you would like to volunteer at the Big Event with the OU Club of Houston, please click 'Join Team' to register for our team. If you are just wanting to volunteer (not participate in the run/walk), then you should register as a "Walker" which does not cost any money.
If you choose to join our team and prefer to run, you will have to register as a runner and there will be a fee involved. However if you register before March 22, you will receive a UMDF t-shirt!
